How to ensure corrosion protection and weather resistance? Find out now!

Around the building of a wholesale trader for frozen food and kitchen technics was build a sheet pile construction. For the safety of the structure, a  corrosion protection and weather resistance system was applied.

What  initially observed?

After completing the structure, unprotected steel sheets were already corroded. Surface preparation consisted of blasting in accordance with the SA 2.5. Using airless spraying method, the proction system was applied. 

Technical data of the project

The area of application: sheet piles and cover profiles, approx. 500 m long by 5.0 m high and 1.75

Area: 1,800 sqm

Used product: PROGUARD 96 and PROGUARD 169

PROGUARD 169 is a polyurethane product used for protection against weathering and UV-Stability. In this project, it opted for the color DB 703 MIO (micaceous iron ore). The thickness of the protective system was approx. 90 μm.

What are the advantages of the products?

PROGUARD 96 is a two-component epoxy product, with ceramic base. This product provides resistance to corrosion, abrasion and impact. It shows good results in use as a base coating for external applications in aggressive environments, particularly those with alkali substances. It is also used for hydraulic structures with a high flow of water and salt.

PROGUARD 169 is a  two-component highly-crosslinked polyurethane coating. It ensures long lasting resistance to weather and UV radiation. Moreover, PROGUARD 169 shows a good color stability and resistance to abrasion. It is applied in a single layer and requires a very short curing time. The chemical resistance of this product enables application in very aggressive environments.

Special attention should be paid to the substances used in industrial processes, and the metal surfaces exposure to the environment. These factors will have a negative impact on the equipment quality. We recommend a specialized inspection and taking necessary measures to prevent the maintenance costs.
