Corrosion prevention means reducing costs and energy consumption
The solution for cost reduction
Indian Government is taking steps to develop one hub for high quality products, and for this it is necessary to obtain an industrial system with "zero defect zero effect" (ZED), in terms of industrial processes. The solution? Companies apply sistems that prevent corrosion. This maintains the quality of the equipment, guarantees reduced maintenance cost and lower energy consumption.
“Investment in corrosion preventive methods is more cost effective than later spending on repairs and maintenance which accounts to $ 2.5 billion and $ 6.5 billion respectively,” opined Dr Kamachi Mudali, chairman, CII-Faraday Council of Corrosion and associate director, Corrosion Science and Technology Group, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam.
The impact of corrosion
Corrosion is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive industry and is the factor that contributes to the degradation of the outer surfaces of equipment and also involve high costs for reconditioning.
Corrosion costs worldwide exceed 2.2 trillion US dollars, accounting for nearly 3-4% of the gross domestic product of industrialized countries. Taking into account these costs somewhere between 25-40% can be saved by implementing corrosion management practice.
This phenomenon of corrosion has a strong enough economic impact, affecting the growth and sustainability. The area affected is quite high, as the direct costs, materials, equipment and maintenance activities. If things get out of control, we can talk about a risk for the company development and environmental contamination.
